Watching a documentary partly about London Bridge has me hankering for a book about medieval people and details. Could you recommend me some that you've enjoyed?
It can be either realistic fiction or speculative (ie fantasy). Real location, or imaginary, anglocentric or somewhere else. I'm thinking people lower than the aristocratic classes although can go for the aristocrats if it's really can't miss.
One thing I'm not into is the grim, depressing side of life. Not really into medieval dentistry or oppression or child mortality or epidemics!
I'm not really looking for a true historical text like The Canturbury Tales, (IIRC), but a really amazing modern history book about such a text or related subject could be a gateway hook for me if you know of one. Also I do like history books so even though that's not what I'm looking for, open to recommendations if one leaps to mind.

The Good Wife of Bath by Karen Brooks
It’s a new retelling (2022) about the Wife of Bath from the Canterbury Takes. I think it did a great job giving her a new voice that’s palatable for modern readers.
