I just finished Shogun, (thanks to the new mini series for finally pushing me to start it, had it for years and kept saying one day I'll read it, once i started i couldn't put it down), I was going to read Gai Jin, but I've heard some mixed reviews. Maybe ill tackle it after I finally read Tai Pan.
Anyways, I'm looking for a book set in Meiji era japan, something that will transport me there in a similar way Shogun took me to Sengoku japan. I know that's probably a tall order but I'm not expecting much of anything to take me somewhere the way Clavell did in that book.
