After traumatically losing my brother recently, I can’t read (or watch) dark things like I used to enjoy. I’ve always been a big fan of mysteries, thrillers, and recently mythological horrors. Right now, I can’t stomach reading anything about death, and certainly not crime thrillers nor murder mysteries. One of my favorite things about reading those books was how enthralling and gripping they were— I was practically rushing to the end.

I’m trying to get started with some other books, but it’s proving to be a lot harder than I thought. Here are some books from other genres I have enjoyed in the last few years
    – Project Hail Mary
    – The Hobbit (idk why I didn’t read this until adulthood!)
    – 7 Husbands of Evelyn Hugo
    – The Art Thief
    – The Song of Achilles
    – Avatar Kyoshi novels
    – Normal People

I’ve also read several Neil Gaiman books over the years and would say Neverwhere might be my #1 of all time. Recently read first book of ACOTAR but decided it wasn’t for me. I’m reading The Fourth Wing series, and enjoying it fine enough, but wouldn’t say it’s a top favorite.

TLDR — not reading crime thrillers or mysteries anymore, what books would you recommend that are still captivating through to the end?

    1. Sir Terry Pratchett, he was knighted for writing humor . His Discworld has a little something for everyone and is as soothing as it is funny. If you haven’t read anything by him I am very pleased to introduce you to Terry Pratchetts Discworld…. You don’t need or have to read them in order .
