I (28F) will be traveling solo for the first time in the fall and I’m definitely anxious!
My genre of choice is almost always thriller, but I’m looking to expand my horizons and treat this as an opportunity for growth.
In 2019, I really enjoyed Wally Lamb’s I Know This Much Is True – it had that twist that I always crave but the story wasn’t so “thriller-y” – it felt more mature and well-crafted.
Does anyone have any books that could satisfy the twist craving while not necessarily feeling juvenile? A meaningful thing or two to read while I travel alone?

Martyr by Kaveh Akbar fits the bill here IMO. It’s beautifully written
Have a look at Once There Were Wolves by Charlotte McConaghy.
