A chilling article, but the author makes a statistical claim that’s confusing to me, claiming that 80% of American Jews are Zionists, combining two groups.
In the actual poll cited:
> Caring about Israel is “essential” to what being Jewish means to 45% of U.S. Jewish adults, and an additional 37% say it is “important, but not essential,” according to a new Pew Research Center survey that was fielded from Nov. 19, 2019, to June 3, 2020
Would someone who claims Israel is “important, buy not essential” be considered a Zionist? That seems to be opposite. Isn’t Zionism, by its nature, a belief in the essentialism of Israel?
