A book where the protagonist use to be evil/ has a redemption arc?
Y’know like they use to be a mafia boss/ samurai/ necromncer Lich king or whatever, but now there is some hotshot on the block after 10 years and the protagonist is just trying to protect their home/ neighborhood/world
Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivations sort of fits: protagonist used to be a necromancer who killed hundreds of people until his adopted brother managed to kill him, 13 years later he’s brought back via dark ritual and ends up working to uncover a conspiracy. Only sort of fits because I don’t know how evil you want the protagonist to have been.
Witch King by Martha Wells should also fit based on description but I haven’t read it yet.
