Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer about Chris McCandless. Was also made into a movie of the same name.

Touching the Void by Joe Simpson is nor quite this, but close.

Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer is going to get recommended on this thread. It’s an interesting read and the writing in engaging, though it is critiqued for over romanticizing the life and death of Chris McCandless to the extent that pilgrims visiting the site of his death frequently have to be rescued.
The Golden Spruce by John Vaillant is really good though the disappearance is just one portion of a larger story.
The Last Season by Eric Blehm tells the story of a Backcountry Ranger who went missing in the Sierra Nevada mountains while on what should have been a routine patrol, and the search that followed his disappearance.
I don’t have a specific book to recommend on Everett Ruess, but he famously disappeared in Utah in the 1930s, so there might be a good one about him.
