The Catcher in the Rye, Jane Eyre, The Sun Also Rises, To Kill a Mockingbird, and The Hobbit (among others) are all very well-known first novels. But what are some other debut novels that you found excellent but might not be as well known? For example, I just started Dan Simmons' debut novel, Song of Kali, and am loving it so far. I'd love to uncover other good, lesser known first novels as well. Any thoughts? Thanks!
