I noticed a lot of Millenial/Gen Z girls especially buy a lot of books and read them. Do they, or those who read a lot in general always look for reviews before deciding to buy certain books?

I read mostly online and usually academic literature. I was rushed when visiting a bookstore a while ago and bought a book on linguistics which turned out to be rather politically charged and not so scientifically rigorous. Now I kind of regret it. But ut got me thinking, do these young people or those who read a lot look for suggestions or reviews first or do they just get into bookstores and buy whatever catches their eye?
