I like to read books that add to my knowledge about the universe and human experiences. So I read all sorts of books: fiction, non-fiction, history, self-help, philosophy, autobiography etc.
Another rule I follow is to read as long as a book holds my interest; I don’t push myself to read. With this approach, I read about 35-40 complete books each year for the last 4-5 years (books+ audiobooks). But this year, I have slowed down dramatically and reading mostly non-fiction. I am finding that most books I try cover the topics that I have already read on, so I drop them.
I have read fictions like Brothers Karamazov and Middlemarch, but now I can’t bring myself to start a fiction. But I still miss reading long fictions.
Not sure what is happening.

try reading a book just for fun. i’m a “i read to learn” person too but this year i’ve read so many popcorn reads (books that are delicious but not nutritious, if you know what i mean) and i’ve read 178 books so far this year. having taken most of jan/feb and july without reading much at all. i still read the big brain books but having a little fluff should reinvigorate your love of reading. the worst that can happen is you’ll read a few books that you feel didn’t add much to your learning. and what else will you do with that time? take a book in with you when you poo and only read them then so you won’t feel like you’re wasting your time. no one knows the books you read unless you tell them. so have a few “dirty little secret” books that just get you turning pages. that’s my advice, anyway.
Hard SF maybe? Or just well-researched SF, the Andy Weir books might be a good start.
