Books that a go back and forth between a character(s) upbringing and their current situation

Trying to find inspiration for my current WIP, which follows the lives of two characters and weaves flashbacks of their childhood with the current narrative. More modern literary fiction would be my preference, but I'm open to any recommendations! Thank you so much
