    1. Eragon by Christoper Paolini – lots of dragons, elves, lord and an epic battle for the soul of a continent of beings

Legendborn by Tracy Deonn – set in the present day US, it marries Arthurian legend with YA suspense and plenty of creatures

    2. * My favourite young adult fantasy: [Foundling](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/210250.Foundling), first in a series. Lots of mythical creatures, with illustrations by the author. Incredibly unique worldbuilding.

      * [A Wizard’s Guide to Defensive Baking](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/54369251-a-wizard-s-guide-to-defensive-baking) by T. Kingfisher. Lots of magic, but no mythical creatures. There is a legally available free audiobook, but I don’t know if it will cause this comment to be spam filtered so I’ll post a link as a reply.

      * The [Witch World](https://www.goodreads.com/series/53806-witch-world) books by Andre Norton. Magic and mythical creatures.

      * [The Book of Three](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/24780.The_Book_of_Three), also has a disney movie adaptation

      * [Reap the Wild Wind](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/673025.Reap_the_Wild_Wind), first in a series. About a species of magic-wielding aliens in a sci fi setting.
