My favourite books are about inferiority, usually from a historical perspective. Daphne du Maurier, Sarah Waters, Jessie Burton, Lisa See.
I recently watched Boy and the Heron, and I was reminded of a style of book that I'd love to revisit. Think Secret Garden: a person finds themselves in a new place, and slowly explores that place, discovering mysteries.
Similar ideas: boarding schools, old houses, new vocations, adoption, new marriage, etc.
