The spoiler is in the name of the title. They do die at the end. But how Silvera connects us readers with the characters very well is the real highlight. The book could have avoided some of the trivial subplots that doesn’t carry the plot any further. Even though they are connected somehow sometimes you just feel like it prolongs the length of the book with no real story.
The plot takes within 24 hours of two characters perspective (mainly, if you ignore the other subplots or other random characters’ perspectives). Rufus and Mateo are the two main characters and the books about >!how they spend their last hours(?)/day knowing that they are gonna die within the day at any given moment.!<
Kudos to Silvera, for making us connect with these characters knowing to >!expect death at the end!< and still make us feel overwhelmingly sad when it happens. It’s a really great book albeit some of its flaws.
