I am still hung over Agatha Christie and her character development. I struggle a lot with modern mysteries which rely mostly on twists and not offer enough insight on character's mind and their motivations.
I specifically prefer cunning, cold-hearted villain and not someone who has been wronged as a child. Any crime against a child is also a no, no.
