Suggest me a page turner nonfiction book about ancient non-European civilizations

Would ideally like to learn about ancient African or Mediterranean cultures, but really anything works as long as it’s not about Western Europe. I’m not a big non-fiction reader so I have an unfortunately low tolerance for dry reads.
