I teach a high school literature class called World Mythology, and this year, I am starting an independent reading component where students select and read a book that includes mythological characters or creatures, like A Fate Inked in Blood or one of the Rick Riordan series. So now, I just need more options to give the kids.
I have a good selection of Greek in mind already, so I mostly need more books that feature other cultures.
Suggestion parameters
– has any allusion or reference to a mythology
– not a textbook (think Percy Jackson instead of Edith Hamilton)
– is age appropriate for high school
– some sexual content is acceptable, but try to keep the heavy “spice” to a minimum (I would like to keep my job)
– graphic, verse, and other alternative styles of texts are accepted!
