My boyfriend and I are taking some space, possibly breaking up. My entire life is in flux as I apply to jobs and am temporarily staying with my parents. I’m hoping for something a bit escapist to distract me and help me think about something else so I don’t reach out to him. I’m having trouble focusing on much of anything right now. I just finished the Frozen River (historical fiction) and really liked it.

If you are willing to give sci-fi a try, I recommend author Becky Chambers (especially A Prayer for the Crown Shy). She tells imaginative, immersive stories that are also philosophical and kind. Whenever I finish one of her books, I always feel like everything is going to be okay.
