I just finished The Butterfly Garden and I have issues!
Major spoiler alert.
What the actual hell was up with the ending? I enjoyed the book enough, but the ending felt so random and haphazard. Her friend Sophia popped back up out of nowhere and somehow tied into everything – which apparently was supposed to be the big secret she was hiding from investigators the entire time. But I felt like I didn’t even know or care enough about Sophia to really be that shocked and excited about this “twist”?
It felt like a twist just for twists sakes. I strongly believe not every ending needs some shocking twist.
Has anyone else read this and thought the same? Maybe I’m being overly critical. And maybe I should read the rest of the series before judging too harshly.

So it’s been 7 years since I read this one (assuming it’s the one about the “collector of women”) and I’ve completely forgotten the whole book, but I do remember being disappointed with the ending and the book overall. Based on what you wrote, it sounds like the author may have committed the mystery/thriller genre “cardinal sin” of solving everything with an element/suspect/twist that wasn’t really mentioned all that much throughout the book. Glancing over some Goodreads reviews, it looks like you weren’t the only one disappointed with the ending either. Hope the next book picks up if you decide to continue the series!
I disliked the book when reading it but when the twist occurred and realized she had gotten herself kidnapped somehow on purpose just to blow it all up I thought it became the most ridiculous story I ever read. Why would she go through the torture and allow others to be tortured and killed for so long if the whole point was to find where the girls were kept? Why not just notice who the speech men are and follow them to where they go after leaving the restaurant/bar (sorry it’s been awhile since reading so I don’t remember every detail). I found it really insulting.
Oh god, this became a series?? That’s incredibly depressing.
