I would love to read some books that have themes of southern gothic or dark americana. I don't know if those are the proper terms, I just stole them from some video essays lol, but I'm looking for books that have that lonely and eerie feeling that feels unique to America.
The lonely feeling of driving 4 hours on a dusty road barely seeing a few buildings throughout the whole stretch, the creepy almost supernatural vibes that a cornfield has at night where you're told to ignore what you hear, the unsettling feeling that comes when you enter a diner and all the locals stop talking to stare at the outsider. These are what I'm talking about, I would love to hear any book suggestions that have these kind of vibes, preferably horror but give me whatever you have! Also let me know if you have another word for this genre that'd be more appropriate.
