Am not native speaker of Englishso is it me only or do most of the old fantasy books include heavy vocabulary and that makes it hard to fully commit to reading the book. For example I started reading the Black Company recently and the first chapter and the descriptions of some things was confusing to me that I had to look the words up. Also Malazan book of the fallen The wheel of Time A wizard of earthsea was for me guilty of it

Yeah, older fantasy books can be a bit dense with language. *The Black Company* and *Malazan* definitely had me reaching for the dictionary too. Just part of the charm, I guess!
I feel the same way too and sometimes makes me wanna drop the book but it can be a learning opportunity for me but they sometimes over describe things
