These were some books or series that I had that feeling about, but as I’ve gotten older it seems harder & harder to find that “one.” I guess I’m looking for a world with unique characters or ideas to get immersed in, whether it’s epic or cozy. Not romance. Also, can’t get into Brandon Sanderson, even though by all logic I should.

    • Harry Potter (obvs)
    • Lord of the Rings
    • Narnia
    • Hunger Games
    • Patrick Rothfuss

But more recently (past 10 yrs)

    • Robin Hobb (every book like 3x)
    • Slewfoot
    • First 3 Game of Thrones
    • Wool series
    • Bobiverse
    • Ken Follet
    • Edward Rutherford
    • The Neverending End of the World

I suggest the Millennium series by Stieg Larsson.

•The girl with the dragon tattoo

•The girl who played with fire and

•The girl who kicked the hornets nest

These is the main trilogy. There’s a continuation trilogy by David Lagercrantz

•The girl in the spiders web

•The girl who takes an eye for an eye and

      •The girl who lived twice.

There is another one by Karin Smirnoff that was published last year, but it’s not yet connected to the main trilogy and is called

•The girl in the Eagle’s Talons

    2. If you don’t mind dipping back into younger books (thinking of Harry Potter as the frame of reference) you should try Cry of the Icemark by Stuart Hill. It’s got the kind if worldbuilding that sucked me in completely, and characters that I loved. It’s got the adventure aspect that your first list of books share (probably most comparable to Narnia) and there isn’t any focus on romance. It’s also a series, so if you like the first, you’ll have more to keep you occupied with.
