I’m stuck for what to read next and am looking for suggestions!
I have an undergraduate degree in English and read a lot of different genres (horror, thriller, romance, sci-fi, fantasy, historical fiction, romance, memoirs, graphic novels, yadda yadda) but unfortunately tend to DNF quite a few books – my little ADHD brain needs to be IMMERSED bb!!!! I also tend to gravitate towards books that are 400 pages or less, but am up for a longer length if it calls to me.
In this house we LOVE a good Bildungsroman and something that will likely hook me instantly is following a character or group of characters throughout a significant portion of their life. The more character development the better! I’m not a huge fan of flowery diction or books that have noticeable lulls in the pacing created by establishing setting.
That being said, yes, I have read “A Little Life”. I was very attached to the characters, but am trying to avoid that level of emotional tax.
A handful of titles that had me totally engrossed start to finish, include: “A Clockwork Orange”, “Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow”, “Sharp Objects”, “Crying in H Mart”, “The Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires”, and “Invisible Monsters” (truly anything by Palahniuk)
