Books where the main character or the plot really isn’t comfortable with the way the book’s world is, and tries to navigate it and/or change it. Success not necessary.

Title pretty much says it all. I guess the theme would be something like "what you can do with your hands about what will probably forever be there to make you fearful or worried". But of course it would be even better if the theme is something else and the mc/plot is like this.
