Community book read

I've been asked to sit on a committee that chooses an adult fiction book for the community to read together. I need to suggest two titles.

Question: if you knew someone who wasn't a big reader, which book(s) would you recommend to try to hook them and get them excited about reading? Length max 300 pages.
