I'm a huge mystery/thriller fan who usually can't get through a book unless it has cliffhangers every few chapters, a big plot twist at the end, and keeps me constantly guessing. I'm a bit embarrassed by my narrow reading preferences and want to explore other genres. Can you recommend any non-mystery/thriller books that have that unputdownable feeling with gripping plots or compelling narratives? Any genre suggestions are welcome!

The Blacktongue Thief got me into fantasy. I personally found it to be a page-turner.
I’ve just finished Lace by Shirley Conrad which is Filth but I couldn’t put it down. It’s also got a mystery element to it which kept me guessing.
the wolf hall trilogy by hilary mantel
Lonesome Dove
Doomsday Book by Connie Willis- sf/f.
The Goblin Emperor by Katherine Addison- fantasy.
Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro
The Peripheral- William Gibson
Leviathan’s Wake by James S.A. Corey- first book in The Expanse series. sf.
All Systems Red- Martha Wells. 1st in the Murderbot Diaries series. SF. Stands alone but there is more.
Middlegame- Seanan McGuire. Fantasy- 1st book in the Alchemical Journeys series, but absolutely stands alone.
Ancillary Justice by Ann Leckie. SF. 1st in the Ancillary/Imperial Radch series, stands alone.
Translation State by Ann Leckie- part of the Imperial Radch series, but can absolutely be a standalone.
I loved *Candy Darling* by Cynthia Carr, a biography of[the eponymous Warhol acolyte](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Candy_Darling). Thanks to the authors pacing, and the (admitted) unreliability of some of the reminiscences, it read like a novel, and I’m more of a Rothko fan, myself.
