I really liked The Blacktongue Thief, so I read the second book in the series, The Daughters War. Well, now I'm crying; it is very very different from the Blacktongue Thief. I was already kind of depressed so now it's just awful.
Please help me find something to read. I've already read a lot of Christopher Buehlman's other stuff, and it's just too heavy for me right now; he doesn't exactly write about rainbows and puppies.
In general I'm really not a fan of science Fiction or fantasy, except traditionally spooky stuff like the supernatural. I don't find the spooky books to be depressing at all.
I did really like the Murderbot series just for the tone, but I've found out that there really isn't anything else like it. Please stay away from science fiction in your recommendations.
Romance in a book is maybe okay, but it honestly detracts from The plot in my opinion. To me, a good book with romance would be good in spite of the romance.
Anyway, I need something not sad but really engaging to cheer me up. A really good example would be a Benjamin Stevenson book, but I have read everything out there that he has written. Again, it's kind of a tone thing.
Please help me find something to occupy my mind that won't make me want to crawl in a corner and die.
