I absolutely loved this book. It talks about trauma from war (as well as delving into the Sri Lankan civil war), as well as generational trauma, and the difficulties of finding a home in a foreign land, especially when facing racism from others. It was beautifully written – it won the 2023 Miles Franklin I believe. I also really liked Shankari Chandran's other books, Song of the Sun God and Safe Haven are both really good. Safe Haven was released recently, and talks about Australia's issues with immigration, as well as the theme of creating a community for yourself after immigration to a new country. Would definitely recommend all, but they are a set/based in Australia, but still definitely good reads for all people.
There may be some triggers for some people, so read about the warnings first.
