Would like to dive into the genre. Can anyone recommend me some great titles? Love a good page turner, twists and turns, etc. The grittier the better(even spooky?) Thanks!
You could try the books of the French Fred Vargas.
She mixes some strong and quirky plots with an eccentric cast of characters.
Her ‘Commissaire Adamsberg’ series has plots which are often inspired by legends and occult traditions.
I would start with ‘The Chalk Circle Man’ which introduces the main characters of the series and ‘Seeking Whom He May Devour’ which refers to the apparition of a werewolf in a French National Park.
