I'm going on a longer trip to the USA soon, and looking for books that capture the 'essence' of the USA. I'll be travelling to New York, Washington and New Orleans, so books set in those places would be great. I've picked out Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil for Savannah. I currently read a pretty 50:50 split between fiction and non-fiction, so happy to take suggestions from either. Generally read crime, history, classics, and some literary fiction, but willing to give anything a try!
