I find myself stumped a bit, needing a good dark fucked up horror book suggestion. What does that mean? Okay, so I love Stephen King read most of his work so I went out to buy his new "You like it darker" collection and I was pumped expecting typical King horror…just darker. And WOW what a disappointment, in terms of not being dark or horror. The collection is a series of VERY GOOD well written stories, some remind me a little of what I've read from Isaac Asimov (when I don't read horror I love fantasy) but I wouldn't classify them as deeply disturbing horror. So I'd like to hear what recommendations you fellow horror fans have enjoyed? I'll note I DO NOT like anything criminal or detective related (too NCIS-ish for me). I love demonic, spiritual, demented, dark horror. Lately, I've been more on a trend of reading faster moving / shorter books — mainly because I've read so much King and recently finished Stand and then his Dark Tower series that I needed a break from the slow developing narrative. Here's a list of horror books I've read and enjoyed:
-
Currency of Souls – Kealan Burke: Loved this book, fast moving and grabs your attention immediately
-
Come Closer – Sara Gran: Another good demonic book that moved quickly.
-
Haunting of hill house – Shirley Jackson
-
Stephen King: Carrie, The shining, sleeping beauties, IT, misery, pet sematary, the Dark Tower series.
I would love for a horror book recommendation. Ideally a book no older then the past 20-30 years, that is NOT a slow building (again I LOVE IT and Stand and there's nothing at all wrong with either of them. I'd just like something shorter), and isn't detective or crime based (aka csi/ncis). Ideally, some demonic twisted fucked-up-ary :). I appreciate any recommendations!!
