I work at a small bookstore and have a lot of readers that come in looking for fantasy that is:
- Not modern/future. Usually enjoy medieval-ish best.
- No romance. At most there could be a "guy gets the girl" kind of deal at the very end, but no romantic shenanigans throughout the book(s).
- Male main characters preferred (there's such a massive influx of female mains that its drown out the few male leads we do get in stores that I know of. If you have a female lead with no romance whatsoever though I may be able to swing that).
Due to some of these people reading rather quickly, I have run out or recommendations after just a couple years, and many of my best recommendations are no longer in print. I need books that:
- Are in print
- Have been published within the last 5 years to keep it fresh
- Are available in Canada
- Are not published through Amazon (this usually creates issues with obtaining the book for my store, so this is more of a preference than a rule).
- Are for either teens or adults. (I am lowest on teens, as getting teen guys to read female mains is much harder than the adults, and the teen section has ended up with probably 95% female mains at this point. The teens are currently reading in the 9-12 age area because they can't find anything in teens.)

((Also.. if anyone wants to help me find something for myself, and has an old man main fantasy for me that isn't in first person, that would be lovely. I mean like… A Man Called Ove or 100 Year Old Man Who Jumped Out The Window and Disappeared, but fantasy instead. I dont know if it exists but if it does I need it. Old lady main char would work too, old people are just freaking great in the novel's I've read))
