Im looking for historical themes, terror, suspense and adherence to the actual horrors of vampirism, without resorting to the classics (Carmilla, Dracula, etc).
I don’t mind gore-y themes or something in the modern day, I just want to try something fresh 🙂
Extra points for queer characters though!

This only ticks some of your boxes, but you *might* enjoy *Vengeance for My Valentine* by Adam J. Whitlatch. It’s not a standalone (he’s working on a sequel now). It does feature a trans man as one of the main characters. It’s a modern setting and really violent.
Dowry of Blood by ST Gibson is one I highly recommend!! I believe it’s technically a retelling (of sorts) of Dracula, however, it’s from the perspective of his first spouse, Constanta. There’s a lot of themes of found family amongst the consorts and it’s very queer!! Not sure if you’d consider it a classic since it’s a retelling, but it’s an amazing story that takes you around the world at different times in history.
