College has destroyed my love of books and i dreaded having to read books like the crucible or Rebecca, and dont get me started on shakspeare
The main reason i wanna get into reading its because i heard it’s beneficial, but what books do i need to read in order for it to be beneficial? fiction or non fiction? and whats is benefits?
I wanna get into fiction, learn new words/expand my vocab i think i would enjoy more action novels with some romance mix into it i think as a kid i enjoyed reading alex rider and maze runner but i couldnt find any other good boons similar to those so i gave up

A Nightmare’s Point of View –
Nightmares never go away… You may chase them away. You can think you killed them… You may stop believing and forget them, but Nightmares never go away… Nightmares don’t die… They just wait…
Explore what’s on the other side of the shadows… What really is going on when the last remnants of light fade out and you close your eyes to sleep? Nowhere is safe when they find you…
Atheireyn are the ultimate nightmare species. They are nigh unbeatable, indestructible, unyielding, and unkillable…
No matter where, they can move through shadows. They can open doorways to anywhere in the universe and when they are hungry, there is no place that is safe…
The book is about a monstrous alien named Embrance trying to change his species’ deathly eating habits. It is a Sci-fi fantasy adventure with an array of emotions, colorful characters, and perspectives. It isn’t a light read. This is a healthy-size Sci-fi dark fantasy and a plus-size adventure. Warning: contains some adult themes and some gore.
Shadow Side –
Fantasy adventure –
In the middle of a war with the shadow elves; beastly creatures with the features of an elf that seek the annihilation of anyone that crosses their path, the paladins fight to protect everyone they can from them. Virgil seeks to become one just like the rest of his family and to fight to push the monsters back to their dark territory. Twisted events happen, which impede his training and force him to question himself and the paladin life he so desires.
Does contain some adult themes (mainly the back of the book)
Tell us what kind of movies or tv you like so we can cater our suggestions. There are lots of action books with some romance.
If you’re trying to kindle a love of reading I would suggest reading for fun to start, not as an assignment to be better.
As long as you are reading something you are improving yourself, imo
I personally love “ demon copperhead” by Barbara kingsolver. I didn’t think I’d like it by the cover because I judged it no pun intended but it’s my all time favorite read in a decade or more. Its fiction but per a pediatrician that has also read the book she said the stories are so on point with real life according to the foster patients she usually treats which is saddening. It sheds awareness on the broken foster care system as well as the opioid epidemic.
Action with a hint of romance?
Find James Rollins Sigma Force Series (there are 14 or 15…the library numbered them weird and I’m lazy so I didn’t Google lol)
Mostly action but there’s a hint of Romance laced in there.
Monk is my fave character (that’s his name, not his belief lmao).
The best part is you can read them out of order. The only thing that might be slightly confusing is the romance arcs and the ages of the two little girls that appear in book….two…three? I don’t recall lol and even that isn’t super confusing.
* {{Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir}}
* {{Dark Matter by Blake Crouch}}
Both fiction, both quick reads. I don’t think you’d get bored.
If you wanna expand your vocab, you can do that in almost any book, but it takes practice… making flash cards or digital highlights and revisiting them. You’re not going to expand your vocab *just* by seeing words on the page and maybe looking them up once. I’d suggest doing it for more than just words as well. Highlight passages that were written well, analogies and metaphors you like.
But, if you’re not liking reading because of college and the effort required there, I’d suggest reading just because you like it. I liked both of the stories I recommended because they were entertaining. Dark Matter in particular sparked a lot of conversation between me and my partner.
