I'm looking for non-fiction books to read. I'm not too picky but I favor topics related to the social sciences – sociology, political science, feminism… I can also do psychology and self-help. History as long as it's focused on a specific period and not too generic.
My main request is that the books be under 300 pages long, as I find most non-fiction books to severely overstay their welcome. A page count of 200-280 would be ideal.
My other request is that the books do not have an overly academic tone. There are many non-fiction books which are only short because the author is stating facts and citing sources one after the other as opposed to trying to argue a point, and this obviously doesn't make for a very engaging reading experience.
Thanks in advance to anyone who will provide suggestions.

I’d suggest Roxane Gay and bell hooks for feminism. Their style is amazing so you’ll breeze through their books.
The Adulterous Woman by Albert Camus!
I just finished Sold by Patricia McCormick, about a Nepalese girl who was sold into sexual slavery. I have the digital version of the book and it’s 297 pages, but the physical copy might be longer. It was a very good read.
On a different but still nonfiction note, I originally read Will My Cat Eat My Eyeballs with one of my kids, thinking it would be kid-centric, but it was actually a pretty good read also.
Lastly I’d go with Nobody’s Child by Susan Vinocaur, about a 3 year old child that died and his grandmother was accused of killing him, although i think it’s about 330 pages.
