I'm looking for books that feature a plot/adventure based in modern-day (esque) society/history. Kind of like a Young Adult/New Adult version of Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, Hunger Games, Maze Runner, etc. but grounded to present-day-like reality. Kinda akin to other stuff like My Hero Academia, Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, etc. Looking for more sci-fi than fantasy, but either genre is appreciated. Bonus points if the MC is a guy who is 18/21+ and speaks in first person.
Also, if this helps, fictional protagonists that I like are Sora, Bayonetta, Cloud, Kratos, Lucifer (from the show), Nick and Charlie (from Heartstopper), and Sonic.
Also, also, books that I like are: Ready Player One, Beholder, The Other Side of the Island, The Maid, and The Martian.
