This post was inspired by an interaction I had a few months ago. I was talking to someone about books, and he mentioned he enjoys Joe Abercrombie. I asked how far into the universe he was, and it turns out he hadn't read the Age of Madness books yet.
I was enthusiastic about the books and said he should definitely give them a go. Here's where things get weird. I gave him the most barebones intro ever, much less than what you can glean from the Goodreads blurb. Here's a spoiler tag if you need one:
The story picks up around 20 years after the original. They're at the dawn of the industrial age now and some of the main characters are the characters' from the First Law trilogy's children
Super broad strokes and an innocent teaser, or so I thought. The guy RECOILED & said that's a whole lot of spoilers.
So, how do you approach "selling" a book? How much if anything do you give away? Would you have considered the amount of info I divulged to be a spoiler? Let me know your thoughts!
