    Hi r/suggestmeabook,

Some time ago I watched the Netflix documentary "Colosseum" which focused on the construction of the arena, but did so through the lens of those who fought within the walls and the emperors who were financing the construction.

I found the narratives about the emperors far more compelling than that of the building.

Can anyone recommend a modern book or books that might describe each of the emperors without being too dry / academic? I did see 12 Caesars by Suetonius but his work is often criticized as being too sensational.

    Thanks in advance!
