My 5 year old is obsessed with insects. I read James and the Giant Peach to him and he loved it, because insects of course. Does anyone know other books at the same level that prominently feature insects?

EDIT: To be accurate, a spider is an arachnid, not an insect. It’s a charming, lovely book nonetheless.

    2. They aren’t exactly chapter books, but I remember being very fond of the Ant and Bee books when I was a child. Also a Dr Seuss (iirc) book called A Fly Went By. These are a bit younger than James and the Giant Peach or Charlotte’s Web, but great for a child learning to read on their own. The Richard Scarry books feature a worm very prominently in some stories. Some kids get a lot out of factual books on favourite subjects like this, too.

There’s Maximilian Fly by Angie Sage, too. Plus there’s Ellie’s Slugbucket for younger readers.

I think you could throw in Kafka’s Metamorphoses, as well. They’re never too young for Russian literature! 😬
