Recent years I've been seeking the answer: How can we more efficiently extract the essence of non-fiction books and truly put that knowledge to use? For a long time, I've been facing the following challenges:
- With broad interests, my to-read list keeps growing, but time is limited.
- During commutes, workouts, and other chunks of time, reading isn't possible, so audiobooks become the only option.
- Listening to full audiobooks takes too long and it's easy to lose focus; while summaries often feel lacking in depth.
To address this, I've been exploring how to create truly helpful, high-quality book summaries. In this process, I've realized that each reader might have a different definition of what makes an "excellent summary."
Like what's your ideal length for a summary ; what components should a summary include ; what factors are most important to you? (e.g., accuracy, depth, conciseness); prefer summaries that follow the book's structure or those reorganized by themes and so on.
I'd like to discuss with you all: What characteristics do you think a high-quality book summary should possess?
