I've only read 'A Christmas Carol' and absolutely loved it. After a while, I decided to try 'The Old Curiosity Shop'—big mistake! I couldn't even get through the first 30 pages. The characters were obnoxious, and the story felt dull and grey, so I had to DNF it.
A few years later, I decided to give Dickens another shot and picked up 'Oliver Twist' from the library. Since it's one of his most popular books, I have high hopes for it.
For those who've read it, is 'Oliver Twist' more like 'A Christmas Carol' or more like 'The Old Curiosity Shop'? Was it worth reading for you? Or would you recommend a different Dickens novel?

I found Oliver Twist quite slow and a bit annoying at times.
The Dickens book I would most recommend is Great Expectations. It’s surprisingly a lot of fun – I reread it frequently. It’s not particularly like A Christmas Carol, none of his other works are, really, but it’s still fun.
