anything lesbian, somewhat dark, preferably period dramas- just tales of love, longing, potential heartbreak and drama. sarah waters in fingersmith does it best. the plot twists, the romance, the brooding atmosphere- i highly recommend.

I LOVED this book and came across it by accident… I’ve been wanting something similar for ages… closest I’ve come to it was the The Asylum for Wayward Victorian Girls, by Emilie Autumn. Also here for the reccomendations
Try The Mercies by Kiran Millwood-Hargreaves
maybe other sarah waters books? tipping the velvet is amazing.
It has a strong fantasy element so depends if you’re into that, but Bitterthorn by Kat Dunn is dark and atmospheric with tons of yearning and heartbreak. You might also like The Animals at Lockwood Manor by Jane Healey.
Not to suggest the obvious, but if you haven’t read her other books, it sounds like you would really like Affinity and Tipping the Velvet.

Not another book recommendation, but have you seen The Handmaiden? It’s based off of Fingersmith. SO good!
