I am a Horror fan, but even I can admit that a Drama can be just as (if not more) disturbing as Horror fiction.
Examples in this like can range from Period Drama’s like the 1979 film Caligula displaying the unabridged sadism of the Roman Empire, Marquis de Sade’s 120 Days of Sodom, or some of Shakespeare’s more grotesque stories.
Or even Contemporary Drama’s like We Need To Talk About Kevin’s severely unnerving look into the mind of a growing Psychopath, Lolita’s stomach turning portrayal of sexual abuse, & the (not fun) cringe inducing experience of watching Larry Clark’s Kids (1995).
I am intrigued in seeking out more stories defined as Drama, Tragedy, or Erotic that are well written, but have a considerably dark, macabre, grotesque &/or unnerving tone, or display of themes.
