I am in a conundrum about what to read next, till now I have only ever listened to books that have some sort of pre-existing visual adaptation or origin, whether it be movies or games, for context I have read/listened through the following-
-LOTR + Hobbit + Silmarillion
-Harry Potter Series
-Halo Series
All of these have atleast some level of visual reference and I am scared I might have some trouble visualising the environment and characters without a reference point
For example in case of halo books even tho the stories arent the same as the games when something like a banshee is mentioned, I know what it looks like, similarly for LOTR I know what elves, hobbits and dwarves look like or how the hogwarts castle in LOTR looks like…
I have a few books I am considering trying out but confused-
Percy Jackson, heard it is kind of similar to HP so I might like it, but really confused if I should go through the movies first, like I mentioned I am scared I might have trouble visualising; but I have also heard that the movies are very disliked and that they dont follow the books, do I just go through the mindset of "this is just a fanfic" and read the books after it, or do I ignore the movies and go straight to the books?
Another series I am considering is Dune, but really torn on if I should plunge in, from what I know the next dune movie will be based on the third book, I cant decide if I should wait for the movie to come out first since movies are often a little different from the books and if they dont capture the books perfectly instead of enjoying the movie I'd be hyperanalysing and complaining if they dont :')
sooo…. what should I do? any recommendations outside of these 2 books would be highly appreciated too! if there is anything I might enjoy based on the series I have already tried.
and if anyone has any answer to my visualisation conundrum
sorry for the essay :')
