Where do you go to find the best books of the year, before they win awards?

I love following the various awards (National Book Award, Man Booker, Hugo, etc) for suggestions for my next read each year. But where do you go to find out about these books before they get nominations/awards like these? Most of the time these books are totally unknown to me when they get nominated.

I know NYT bestseller lists are not really a good indicator of quality, and I'm always wary of Goodreads suggestions for similar reasons. So, where do you all look to be on the cutting edge to find the next great book?
