I just finished Dune Part 3 and i loved it. But I want to take a small break and try something new before i continue with the 4th part. Because of Dune I am in the mood for a character that is destined to be something special, to change the system or be more powerful then others. I would wish for a dark and serious universe like a song of ice and fire. I love good world building with real consequences and meaningful plot. When I checked goodreads for high fantasy books most of them seemed a bit generic or about some romance story. Romance should not be the focus at all, it is of course nice when happening as a side thing but that should not be the main focus at all. I really struggle to explain what I am seeking so I will create a short lists of things i like and dislike:
Things I wish for:
- High Fantasy (ideal with a lot of magic and fictional races that are not basic like Humans/Orks/Elves)
- A world that is shit and dark like the real one, similar to A song of ice and fire
- Main character that is something special. (For example I also like Harry Potter how he slowly becomes stronger and stronger and is more talented in some things then others or got special powers like talking to snakes which is something unique)
- It would be nice if the scale of events would be big, for example following a thief or assassin character on a heist is not what i seek, I would prefer events that have a bigger scope, war between races, overthrow a country a god or a wizard circle something like that. A breaker of chains like Daenerys Targaryen for example.
Things I want to avoid:
- A love story should not be the focus
- Generic fantasy with Orks/Elves/Dwarfs
Characters like Paul Atreides and Daenerys Targaryen have something special about them but shaped their own legacy and created something incredible. It is so interesting to follow them through a ruthless world. Something like that would be ideal.
