As the title suggests…
I have read:
- I,Claudius (although I much prefer the BBC drama) by Robert Graves
- The Persian Boy by Mary Renault — Read it when I was 15. Probably too young to fully appreciate its depth.
- Halfway through The Memoir of Hadrian.
- Close to finishing Medea by Christa Wolf.
Curious to hear your take!

The Light Bearer by Donna Gillespie
The Masters of Rome novels by Colleen McCullough
“Circe” by Madeline Miller was UNBELIEVABLE. I am not exaggerating when I say that I read it in about 3 days, was stunned for 1 day, then immediately went back to page 1 and read it again. Her other books “Song of Achilles” was also terrific.
Came to recommend Song of Achilles and Circe aaaaaand……too late. 😆
“The Will of the Many” by James Islington. Fantasy, but set in a very recognizable Roman Empire with very cool twists. I can’t wait for the next book.
The Cicero Trilogy by Robert Harris
The Falco series by Lindsey Davis
Falco is especially wonderful, and his friend Helena Justina
Julian by Gore Vidal
