… with a fairly vague request. I'm on the hunt for horror books with a specific kind of storyline. I'm looking for stories where the protagonist(s) or other characters are unwittingly contributing to something horrifying without realizing it.
They might think they're just doing a simple task, following instructions, or even making their own decisions—but in reality, their actions are setting off a chain of events leading to a terrifying outcome. It could be that they're being manipulated or simply unaware of the bigger picture until it's too late. I love the sense of inevitable dread when someone realizes they’ve been part of something much bigger and scarier all along.
Any suggestions for books that capture this kind of suspenseful, creeping horror? Thanks in advance!
