Fiction – Thatcher era Britain

I want to read some fiction with a political backdrop/song sense of place, starting with Thatcher era uk/ north of England

So I’m not looking for something too involved in actual politics (I will NOT be reading her biography lol), I’m thinking more like Billy Elliott??

I recently loved Swimming in the Dark by Tomasz Jedrowski – about a different topic but I loved how it was character/plot centred but the historical context and political state of Poland were weaved into the story.

Loved Young Mungo for similar reasons !!
