Books that describe why war is profitable and reasons why powerful countries/leaders would actively seek to create such scenarios?

Title says it all. I want to better understand why some deem it worth the human cost to engage in what could possibly be avoidable conflict. How someone needs to be socialized in order to be okay with the cost.
